 Recipe for Indonesian Rendang:

In Indonesia Rendang is one of traditional food , that Almost Indonesian people serve in their special day especially in New years day


- 1 kg beef  👉 cut into bite-sized pieces
- 4 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 4 shallots 👉 finely chopped
- 4 cloves garlic (minced)
- 4 red chilies 👉 seeded and thinly sliced
- 3 lemongrass stalks 👉 bruised
- 4 kaffir lime leaves 👉 torn into pieces
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 4 cardamom pods
- 4 cloves
- 400 ml coconut milk
- 200 ml water
- 2 teaspoons tamarind paste
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar

Spice Paste:
- 5 red chilies 👉 seeded
- 6 shallots
- 4 cloves garlic
- 4 candlenuts
- 2 cm ginger
- 2 cm galangal
- 2 cm turmeric


1. Blend all the ingredients for the spice paste in a food processor until smooth.

2. Heat the oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the shallots, garlic, and red chilies, and sauté until fragrant.

3. Add the spice paste, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, and cloves. Stir fry for a few minutes until the spices release their aroma.

4. Add the beef to the pot and cook until the meat changes color.

5. Pour in the coconut milk and water. Stir well and bring the mixture to a boil.

6. Reduce the heat to low and simmer uncovered for 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking. The rendang is done when the beef becomes tender and the sauce thickens.

7. Stir in the tamarind paste, salt, and sugar. Simmer for another 10 minutes.

8. Remove the pot from the heat and let it rest for a few minutes before serving, to allow the flavors to blend.

9. Serve the Rendang hot with steamed rice or traditional Indonesian side dishes like Nasi Padang.
